El uso de VAE ha aumentado con el tiempo. Una de las principales razones de esto es el tratamiento de las lesiones B3. El documento de orientación para la evaluación del NHS BSP (publicación 49) y las directrices del NHS BSP sobre el tratamiento de las lesiones B3 (en prensa) abogan por reemplazar la biopsia quirúrgica estándar con VAE.
