This session will explore models of value-based procurement implemented around the world, enablers to value-based healthcare (VBHC) adoption and highlight successful Canadian strategies. The session will highlight key factors to enabling adoption, and highlight two innovative approaches to addressing some barriers to adoption in Canada:
• Newfoundland and Labrador’s Eastern Health will showcase the importance of impacting policy development, and involving industry in the journey to support the shift to a value-based procurement strategy from a more traditional procurement process to enable VBHC
• Collaboration between BD and British Columbia’s Patient-Centred Measurement program will demonstrate the benefits of a value-based agenda to address the challenges and problems faced by clinicians and patients related to peripheral vascular access, the most common invasive procedure performed in hospitals
