This course will provide essential background in theoretical knowledge, as well as clinical and technical skills required for clinicians to undertake the endovascular creation of an arteriovenous fistula for hemodialysis. Topics covered include identifying endoAVF candidates, planning cases and managing the procedure for ultimate success in providing patients

Dr. Peden is an Associate Professor of Cardiovascular Surgery, Institute for Academic Medicine at Houston Methodist and Weill Cornell Medical College, where his clinical expertise focuses on limb salvage, Peripheral Vascular Disease, Dialysis Access, Aortic Disease Management, Aneurysms, Varicose Vein Treatment, and Visceral Revascularization. Dr Peden graduated from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas, where he then went on and completed his residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and a subsequent vascular surgery fellowship in Vascular Surgery at the Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. As both a surgeon and clinical instructor, Dr. Peden previously served as a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center, Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy at Baylor College of Medicine, Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at the Methodist DeBakey Heart and Vascular Center, and was then named Chief of Vascular Surgery in 2008.
Dr. Berland is currently the Director of Outpatient Vascular Interventions at NYU’s Lagone Medical Center and the host of the “Vascular Surgery Show” on Sirius/XM’s Doctor Radio. Dr. Berland graduated from the Medical College of Georgia in 2003 and completed his General Surgery residency at Mayo Clinic in 2008, where, as Chief Resident, he was awarded a patent for a minimally invasive technique that can be used in different procedures over a wide range of surgical subspecialties. Dr. Berland pursued a fellowship in Vascular Surgery when it became apparent that the field’s technology was rapidly advancing towards less invasive procedures, allowing patients to recover and return to their daily activities more quickly. Known as a renowned vascular surgeon, he is listed in Castle Connolly “America’s Top Doctors” for 2018 and has been a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, America’s top Medical Society, since 2003. Dr. Berland is published extensively and is the principal investigator for several ongoing research trials.
Stephen E. Hohmann, M.D., is a board-certified general and vascular surgeon. His expertise is the medical and surgical treatment of vascular disorders including carotid stenosis, peripheral vascular disease, aneurysmal disease and venous disease with a special interest in dialysis access.
After graduating magna cum laude from the University of Southern California, Dr. Hohmann earned his medical degree at University of California, San Diego. He then completed a general surgery residency and vascular surgery fellowship at Baylor University Medical Center, Dallas, TX.
Dr. Hohmann’s research interests include arteriovenous grafts for hemodialysis and vascular grafts. He currently serves as site Principal Investigator for the clinical trial of a bioengineered medical device for hemodialysis as well as a new graft for hemodialysis. He has authored several publications in peer-reviewed medical journals. In addition, he has presented his work and proctored at more than 50 local, regional, national, and international medical conferences and symposia, including the Charing Cross International Symposium, VEITHsymposium™, Controversies in Dialysis Access Meeting, Vascular Access Society of the Americas and the annual meeting of the Society for Vascular Surgery.
A fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Hohmann is also a member of the Society for Vascular Surgery, the Vascular Access Society of the Americas, the Southern Association for Vascular Surgeons, and the Dallas County Medical Society. He has received several awards for scholarship, research, and patient care, and has been named on the D Magazine peer-nominated list of Best Doctors in Dallas for the past four years.
